One of a Kind

Laila Devalié ist eine dänische Glaskünstlerin, Kunstlehrerin und -therapeutin aus Lønstrup in Nordjütland. Sie war an vielen Ausstellungen in Dänemark beteiligt und repräsentierte das Land mit dem Medium Glas in der World Art Expo 2009 in Kalifornien. Für Ihre Serie „One of a kind“ verwendet Sie Gemälde und Schwarzweiß-Fotografien in Zitation, um daraus auf dem Medium Glas ‚postfotografisch‘ eigenständige Studien der weiblichen Psyche entstehen zu lassen. Durch die besondere Materialität des Glases erhalten die Bilder reflektierende Oberflächen, die sie je nach Lichtbrechung und Betrachtungswinkel sehr verschieden, damit vieldimensional, verletzlich und unnahbar wirken lassen, zugleich aber auch stets deren mediale Gemachtheit selbstreflexiv ausstellen.

„I live and have my studio gallery in the beautiful little village Loenstrup by the sea in northern Denmark. I have been drawing and painting since my childhood. I was always drawn by the human being and the psychological way. So after years of drawing to become a fashion designer I changed direction and studied art, pedagogical and psychology to work with people using art. In 2000 I started to give my own artwork more focus and tried glass as material. So I began to work as a professional artist and glass became my great passion. I experimented with all kinds of techniques to get the right expression, using old drawings, paintings and later photography, especially black and white-photos to make my “one of a kind” glass paintings which show the story of humans in a psychological way. So most of my work and impressions start long before I start to use the glass and paint as well as burning the glass in my big kiln.“
